How does carbon removal differ from standard carbon offsets?
Traditional carbon offsets typically pay someone else not to emit (such as preserving existing forest tracts). While valuable, offsets do not pull existing CO2 out of the atmosphere. Carbon removal actively extracts carbon dioxide and sequesters it for hundreds or thousands of years.
